Mathematics K-5 Professional Development
Department of Education will be hosting two professional development
opportunities, Elementary Mathematics Modules Training and Elementary
Mathematics Enhanced Scope and Sequence Training. Teachers who work with
students in mathematics, kindergarten through grade five are invited to
attend. Both professional development
opportunities will be held at The Hotel Roanoke and
Department of Education will cover the cost of one nights lodging for those
traveling over 75 miles to the site of the training. The Department encourages
school division teams to share rooms at the facility on a double occupancy
basis where appropriate. Room reservations for those outside the 75 miles must
be made by November 15, 2006, for the Modules presentations and November 16,
2006, for the Enhanced Scope and Sequence presentations, by calling the Hotel

Elementary Mathematics Modules on Tuesday, December 12, 2006:
Patterns, Functions, and Algebra for Elementary School Teachers (Designed for K-5)
Geometry for Elementary School Teachers (Designed for K-5)
Probability and Statistics(Designed for K-5)
Thinking Rationally about Fractions, Decimals and Percent Instructional Activities (Designed for Grades 4-5 only)
Elementary Mathematics Standards of Learning Enhanced Scope & Sequence on Wednesday, December 13, 2006:
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Kindergarten
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Grade One
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Grade Two
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Grade Three
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Grade Four
Enhanced Scope and Sequence for Grade Five
Presentations will be held from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with lunch provided. Fifty spaces will be available at each session.
Registration for the Elementary Mathematics Modules training on December 12, 2006, will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be completed online at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/reg/mathmodules/.
Registration for the Mathematics Enhanced Scope and Sequence on December 13, 2006, will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be completed online at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/reg/msess/.
