Online Tutorial Regional Training Opportunities |
The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to
announce statewide availability of the Virginia Online Geometry Tutorial. The tutorial is designed to determine student
academic needs through an online assessment and to tailor Web-based lessons to
meet those needs. Each lesson has a
pretest and posttest. Students may
review tutorial lessons until they and their teachers are confident the student
is prepared for the Geometry Standards of
Learning (SOL) assessment.
The Geometry tutorial is available to students in
grades 9 through 12 who have passed Geometry (or Geometry, Part 1, and
Geometry, Part 2; or have completed the geometry content in an integrated
course series) but have failed the Geometry
Standards of Learning assessment.
Teachers may also enroll high school students who are at risk of not
passing the Geometry SOL assessment.
Although students may engage in lessons from home or
school, each school must provide a facilitator/teacher to serve as a mentor and
guide to enrolled students. Facilitators
should be endorsed mathematics instructors.
Facilitators will have access to student accounts, will monitor student
progress, and offer individual guidance.
The Virginia Department of Education will sponsor
four half-day training workshops related to the new Geometry Online Tutorial. The workshops will focus on those who will be
tutorial facilitators.
Four regional workshops will be held as indicated
