NCLB Other Academic Indicator Selection |
DUE: August 31, 2007
The U.S. Department of Education (USED)
has approved an amendment to allow school divisions to choose attendance,
science, history, or writing as the other academic indicator for adequate
yearly progress (AYP) for the division and each school that does not have a
graduating class. This amendment is acceptable by USED if the choice is made
prior to the start of the school year so schools will have a clear objective to
pursue.
For a school to make AYP under NCLB,
all schools that do not have a graduating class must meet the participation
rate and the annual measurable performance objectives for reading and
mathematics, plus their selected other academic indicator. The choice of attendance, science, history,
or writing as the other academic indicator also will apply to the safe harbor
AYP calculation.
School divisions may declare their
choice of other academic indicator for the 2007-2008 school year through the Educational Registry Application (ERA).
Staff members responsible for selecting the indicator should contact the Single
Sign-On (SSWS) Account Manager to gain access to this application. The
indicator for 2007-2008 will default to the 2006-2007 choice unless the
indicator is changed by Friday, August 31, 2007. The link to the indicator selection page will
not be available beyond this date.
Please make your choice of attendance,
science, history, or writing using ERA and fax the signed verification to
(804)786-0101 no later than August 31, 2007. If you have any questions, please
contact Educational Applications at RESULTSHELP@doe.virginia.gov or
(804) 786-3112 (select menu option 4).
