SUBJECT:	Career and Technical Education Creating Excellence Awards for 2007

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Virginia Career and Technical Education Creating Excellence Awards Program for 20062007. There have been several changes in the process this year. The Virginia Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education will continue to present the business and industry partnership and advisory council/committee awards. However, the number of awards will be limited to one award for a business and industry partnership and one award for an advisory council/committee for each of the eight Superintendents Regions. For the first time, applicants for the Individual Educator Award and the Group Educator Award may also submit video clips of their projects or activities on DVD or CD.

The local judging process must be completed by Friday, March 30, 2007. The regional judging level of the Creating Excellence Awards Program has been eliminated. Local divisions should submit their local winning nominations for awards directly to the Office of Career and Technical Education Services in Richmond by 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007. Please list legibly the name or names of the individuals, educators, business and industry, or council as it should appear on the certificate of recognition. Regional and state award winners will be chosen by the following: Advisory Council Awards Virginia Advisory Committee; Business and Education Partnerships Virginia Career Education Foundation (VCEF); Secondary and Individual and Group Awards Panel of local administrators and/or business and industry representatives. Regional award winners will be notified by Friday, May 4, 2007. State award winners will be announced at the awards luncheon. The luncheon recognizing regional and state winners will be held at the Sheraton Richmond West Hotel, 12 Noon, Monday, June 18, 2007.

Attached is a separate packet of information for each of the secondary categories in the Creating Excellence Awards Program. Since there have been changes, please review each categorys packet carefully to ensure that all criteria and deadlines are met. The three packets included are:

• Attachment A - The Advisory Council/Committee Award, School Division or Joint Technical Center Nomination
• Attachment B - The Business and Industry Partnerships Award, School Division or Joint Technical Center Nomination
• Attachment C - The Individual and Group Educator Award, Secondary
