Data Use Training Workshops

In collaboration with the Center for School-Community Collaboration at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Department of Education, Office of Student Services, is pleased to announce a series of one-day regional workshops on the use of Discipline, Crime, and Violence (DCV) Data. These workshops are being offered as part of the Prevention Through Information (PTI-VA) Project. This is the third year of a three-year initiative, funded by a competitive grant from the U. S. Department of Education, designed to improve the capacity of Virginia schools to collect and use school crime and safety data for prevention planning. These workshops are designed for school safety teams and school division/community prevention planning teams.

PTI Data Use Workshops will focus on the use of discipline, crime, and violence data for school- and community-based prevention program management, including needs assessment, performance measurement, intervention selection, monitoring, and progress reporting to the public. The workshops will also focus on strategies for educating key stakeholders and the public about DCV data and engaging them in prevention efforts.

Also developed as a product of the PTI-VA initiative is an online tutorial on DCV data reporting that may be accessed at http://www.dcvreport.org/. School division personnel involved with the collection and reporting of discipline, crime, and violence data are encouraged to take advantage of this new resource. Workshop participants will be expected to have reviewed the online tutorial before attending workshops.
