Nominations for the 2007 Virginia Alternate Assessment Program Standard Setting Committees

The Division of Assessment and Reporting is accepting nominations for the 2007 Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) Standard Setting Committees. Twelve nominees are needed for each of the three grade span committees: grades 3 through 5, grades 6 through 8, and grade 11. Each grade span committee will be responsible for examining student collections of evidence for reading, mathematics, science, and history/social science, and then recommending cut scores to be presented to the Virginia Board of Education. The VAAP Standard Setting Committee Meetings will be conducted June 4-7, 2007, at the Doubletree Hotel Richmond Airport, Richmond, Virginia.

School divisions are encouraged to nominate one or more representatives for each standard setting committee.

The VAAP standard setting committee members will be chosen based on the following criteria:

         instructional/supervisory training and experience;

         instructional/supervisory experience for students with significant cognitive disabilities; and

         balanced regional representation.

Committee members will be provided the following:

       reimbursement for meals and travel expenses in accordance with state travel policy and guidelines;

       lodging;

       honorarium of $100 per meeting day for committee members not under contract with a school division at the time of meeting; and

       certificate for recertification points (pending local approval).

Individuals may initiate the application process or be nominated. In either case, all nominees who wish to serve on the VAAP standard setting committees must complete the Web-based application using the Assessment Committee Application Processing System (ACAPS). The Web-based application process requires a professional reference and approval from the division superintendent. Procedures for submitting the Web-based application process is available at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Assessment/home.shtml.

You are invited to nominate one or more distinguished educators in your division for each of the three committees. Completed applications should be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education using the Web-based ACAPS process by April 6, 2007.
