English Language Proficiency Reading
Subtest Discontinued as a Substitute for the Standards of Learning Reading
Test
|
The United
States Department of Education has informed the Virginia Board of Education
that Virginia
will no longer be permitted to administer the reading subtest of the Stanford
English Language Proficiency (SELP) test as a substitute for the Standards of
Learning (SOL) reading test for limited English proficient (LEP) students at
levels 1 and 2 of English Language Proficiency.
For the 2006-2007 school year LEP students in grades 3 through 8 must
- take the regular SOL reading test
with or without accommodations, or
- participate in the Virginia Grade Level
Alternative (VGLA) for reading if the student is at level 1 or 2 of
English language proficiency.
LEP students
who have attended school in the United
States for less than twelve months may
receive a one-time exemption for the SOL reading test in grades 3 through 8.
If you have
questions or need additional information, please call the Division of
Assessment and Reporting at (804) 225-2102 or e-mail darfax@doe.virginia.gov.
