Virginia School Health Services Institute, July 16-19, 2007

 

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the School Health Services Institute to be held at Longwood University, July 16-19, 2007. The annual institute training sessions provide technical assistance for new school

nurses, new school nurse coordinators, experienced school nurses, experienced school nurse coordinators, nursing assistants, private school nurses, and school health administrators.

 

Informative sessions to be offered include:

 

  • Keynote address: Coordinated School Health, Dr. Patrick Cooper, superintendent of schools, McComb, Mississippi
  • Understanding Poverty
  • Sports Related Injuries
  • Diabetes Management in the Schools
  • Bleeding Disorders
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Case Management of the Special Education Student
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Disaster Preparedness.

 

Registration for the four days is $50, and includes training materials and all meals. Each participant will receive School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text, Janice Selekman, Editor, a valuable resource for school nursing practice.

 

Lodging will be available in Longwood Landings Apartments at the University. Registration forms should be submitted to the Department of Education, Office of Student Services, LaTamara Hudson, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120 by June 1, 2007. Please feel free to duplicate the attached registration form and distribute it to anyone who might be interested.
