Governor Kaine has officially established May 9, 2007, as School
Nurse Day in the Commonwealth
of Virginia. The
Certificate of Recognition can be found at the following website: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Health/home.html.
School nurses
are being acknowledged for their work, which includes:
- Promoting health as crucial to the
growth, development, and subsequent educational success of children
- Enhancing the educational process
for students by helping them meet their individual healthcare needs
- Fostering the health of students
through health screening, health education, prevention programs, and
communication with family, teachers and school administrators
- Providing professional health
services in order to promote learning and student success.
Division
superintendents are encouraged to join Governor Kaine and the Department of
Education in recognizing Virginia school
nurses for the compassionate and dedicated service that they provide to Virginia students,
families, and schools.
