SUBJECT:

Discipline, Crime, and Violence Report for School year 2006-2007

 

The purpose of this memo is to provide information about final submission of collected data for the Annual Report of Discipline, Crime, and Violence (DCV) for the 2006-2007 year. Data submitted will meet the reporting requirements for the following:

 

  • No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
  • Standards of Accreditation safety indicator for the School Report Card
  • State crime and violence report as required in Section 22.1-279.3:1 of the Code of Virginia
  • Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act 2004 (IDEIA) report on suspensions and expulsions of students with disabilities
  • Federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act
  • Federal Gun-Free Schools Act
  • Federal Office of Special Education Program (OSEP)

 

The data collection process remains the same. The data submitted will include the regular 2006-2007 school year, the data from summer school programs for 2005-2006, and all regional centers/programs data.

The closing date for submission of the regional centers/programs data will be June 30, 2007. The closing date for submission for the regular schools will be July 31, 2007. It is important that the report be submitted on or before the dates indicated.

The database for the DCV 2006-2007 report will be closed on July 31, 2007. The database for the DCV 2007-2008 report will be opened on August 1, 2007.

Two important reminders:

 

  1. All incidents within a regional center/program or division center must be reported to the students enrolled division.

 

  1. New codes for 2006-2007 were posted on the Virginia Department of Education website in May 2006. The new codes went into effect August 1, 2006. All new codes were explained in the 2006-2007 User Manual which was posted July 2006.
