FROM: |
Billy K. Cannaday, Jr. Superintendent of Public Instruction |
|
SUBJECT: |
Title III:
Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Immigrant
Students Data Collection |
In order to
comply with the reporting requirements stipulated in Sections 3121(a)(2)(3) and 3122(b) of the No Child Left Behind Act of
2001, Title III: Language
Instruction for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Immigrant Students, school
divisions must report annually the number or percentage of LEP students making
progress in learning English, as well as the number or percentage of LEP
students attaining full English proficiency.
To ensure
accuracy in reporting, a Web-based system will be used to enter the required
data for the 2006-2007 school year. School divisions should complete the
Web-based chart for all K-12 LEP students who were enrolled for a full academic
year during 2006-2007. A student is
considered to be enrolled for a full academic year if the student is in
membership in the school, division, or the state by September 30 of the school
year and continues in membership through test administration. To complete the chart, school divisions
should enter the number of LEP students by grade level and English language
proficiency (ELP) level as a result of their performance on the spring 2007
state-approved English language proficiency assessment, or as a result of a
body of evidence that includes the state-approved English language proficiency
results.
The Title III
Data Reporting System will be available by July 2, 2007, via the following
link: https://p1pe.doe.virginia.gov/ssws/login.page.do. Detailed instructions for completing the
report are included on the website. The
deadline for submission is August 17, 2007.
If you have
questions regarding the report, please contact Stacy Freeman, ESL specialist,
