Establishing Incentive Program to Encourage and Recognize School
Accountability Performance and Competence to Excellence
(8VAC 20-131-325) |
During the July 25, 2007, meeting of
the Virginia Board of Education, the Board approved guidelines establishing an
incentive program to encourage and recognize fully accredited schools and
school divisions as they strive for excellence. These guidelines establish the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP)
Incentive Program as permitted in the Standards of Accreditation (8VAC
20-131-325). The approved guidelines are
attached.
The Board of Educations VIP incentive program will recognize
and reward fully accredited schools and school divisions that make significant
progress toward achieving specific measurable goals and objectives established
by the Board of Education and supported by the Governor.
The program establishes a multi-tiered incentive and
rewards system to recognize levels of performance on the Virginia Index of
Performance. The top awardGovernors VIP Award for Educational Excellencewill
be awarded to eligible schools and divisions that meet or exceed all applicable
VIP excellence targets established by the Governor.
The first VIP awards are expected to be announced in
late fall 2007 based on available data from the 2006-2007 school year. The
Department of Education will provide school divisions with details on the
implementation of this program in early fall. To the extent possible, the
Department of Education will determine schools and school divisions eligible
for the awards based on data already collected.
Please encourage your school administrators to
review the attached guidelines and work towards achieving the excellence goals
established in the VIP program.
