Review of
the Revised K-12 English Language Proficiency Standards of Learning |
During the July 25, 2007, meeting of
the Virginia Board of Education, the Department of Education presented for
second review the Revised English Language Proficiency Standards of
Learning. These standards support the
English language development of limited English proficient (LEP) students in
kindergarten through grade 12. The goal
of the standards is to provide the foundation that will enable LEP students to
be successful in core academic courses.
The Board accepted for second review the Revised English Language
Proficiency Standards of Learning. The
standards can be accessed at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/VA_Board/Meetings/2007/jul-itemG.pdf.
The Board is expected to take final action on the
revised standards at its monthly meeting on September 26, 2007. You are invited
to comment on the Revised English Language Proficiency Standards of Learning through
August 22, 2007, by e-mailing Judy Radford, ESL coordinator, Office of Program
Administration and Accountability, at Judy.Radford@doe.virginia.gov.
