SUBJECT:	National Repository For Online Courses (NROC)

The Virginia Department of Education has joined the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC) network which is operated by the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education. The network offers content for online or classroom use, professional development support, Web (Internet) Based Seminars (WEBINARs), and live Internet events.

As a result of this membership, Virtual Virginia will function as consortium leader for any Virginia public school or division that wishes to join the consortium and receive access to host NROC online content. Consortium membership entitles members to utilize the resources of the NROC online content library for a low annual fee which is based on division enrollment. There are currently eight advanced placement courses, high school level physics, Algebra 1 and several college foundation courses available.

Public access for individual users to NROC resources is available at www.hippocampus.org. Institutions are restricted from hosting content unless they have joined the NROC Network.
