Language Proficiency Assessments for Limited English Proficient Students to
Meet the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 Requirements |
Section 1111
(b) (7) of the No Child Left Behind Act
of 2001 (NCLB) requires
that local education agencies conduct an annual English Language Proficiency
(ELP) assessment of limited English proficient students. For the 2007-2008 school year, school
divisions may choose an ELP assessment that has been previously approved by the
Virginia Board of Education listed in Attachment A; or submit a locally
developed or selected assessment aligned to
A list of criteria and detailed information for
submitting locally developed or other ELP assessments not previously approved
by the Virginia Board of Education is in Attachment B. The
divisions proposed ELP assessment and required documentation must be submitted
to the Virginia Department of Education by October 19, 2007, using the required
cover sheet provided in Attachment C. A
panel will evaluate the assessment and present recommendations to the Board of
Education for final approval.
