This
memorandum provides information regarding the 2008 session of the Virginia
General Assembly. The General Assembly will
convene on January 9, 2008, and is scheduled to adjourn on March 8, 2008. The Division of Policy and Communications
will keep you apprised of proposed legislation of interest to school
superintendents and division personnel through the posting of legislative
tracking reports for bills and resolutions twice a week during the session on
our website.
The
legislative reports for the 2008 General Assembly will be posted on the
Department of Educations website at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/PolicyPub/legis98. These reports will reflect the status of
education-related legislation tracked by the Department of Education. The history of any bill or resolution, all
amendments, and the text of the legislation will be available by clicking on
the bill or resolution number in the Legislative Tracking Reports.
At
the conclusion of the 2008 General Assembly, final tracking reports will be
posted in the same location on our website. These will reflect the final
action on education-related legislation tracked by the Department of
Education. The history of any bill or
resolution, all amendments, and the text of the final version will still be
available by clicking on the bill or resolution number in the Final Legislative
Tracking Reports. Additionally, we will
issue a Superintendents Memorandum summarizing the bills and any actions that
may or must be taken by local school boards.
Later, we will issue a separate Superintendents Memorandum outlining
any bills that amended the Standards of Quality and providing a copy of the revised
standards for 2008.
I
hope this information will assist you in following bills of interest during the
2008 General Assembly Session. Please do
