FROM:

Billy K. Cannaday, Jr.

Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:

Update of Approved Instructional Intervention Providers to Satisfy Provisions in the Standards of Accreditation (SOA)

The Regulations Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia require schools accredited with warning in English or mathematics to adopt and implement instructional interventions that have a proven track record of success at raising student achievement.

On May 30, 2007, the Board of Education granted the Superintendent of Public Instruction the authority to act on its behalf to approve Instructional Intervention providers. Acting on the Boards authority, on December 12, 2007, the Superintendent of Public Instruction approved two additions to the list that may be found in Attachment A.

The complete updated list may be found on the Department of Educations website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/title1/Interventions.pdf.

Prospective providers may continue to apply to the Virginia Department of Education by submitting a completed Instructional Intervention application for reading and/or mathematics. The applications may be found on the Department of Educations website at
