School Report Card Data and Data Collection for Teacher/Student Industry Certification Credentials Division Report, School Year 2007-2008
From January 2004 through May 2008 the Department of Education's Office of Career and Technical Education (CTE) has been conducting industry certification training and testing academies which have been funded through the federal Perkins Act. These certifications help career and technical education teachers become better qualified to teach current market skills and allow teachers to provide students the opportunity to obtain student-selected verified credits.
Students may earn verified credits by achieving certain industry certification credentials while passing related career and technical education programs or courses. Effective with the graduating class of 2004, students were eligible to use industry certification credentials for verified credits to meet certain graduation requirements.
The Department of Education must report the number of career and technical education teachers who have obtained industry certification credentials through personal, local, or state-supported training efforts as well as the number of teachers who need training/testing to achieve a credential. This information is important in planning for the 20082009 industry certification training academies in various regions of the state. Updated information on CTE teacher certification should be reported to the Virginia Department of Education using the data collection spreadsheet that is available for download on the Office of Career and Technical Education's credentialing website http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/CTE/certification/
The Code of Virginia requires that local school boards report annually on the number of student industry certifications, state licensures, and National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessments passed.
Students who obtained industry certification credentials or passed NOCTI occupational competency assessments during the school year 2007-2008 should be reported to the Virginia Department of Education using the data collection spreadsheet that is available for download on the Office of Career and Technical Education's credentialing website http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/CTE/certification/
2008_Data_Collection.xls. All credentials listed on the data collection spreadsheet are considered eligible for student-selected verified credit as either industry certification pathway examinations, full certification programs, NOCTI occupational competency assessments, or licensures. Please e-mail the completed spreadsheet (both teacher and student sections) by July 15, 2008 to Gordon Creasy at Gordon.Creasy@doe.virginia.gov.
The summary columns from the spreadsheet (School Report Card Data) should be recorded on the attached form by school name and signed by the division superintendent. Regional technical center student credentials earned should be added to home or feeder school totals. These data will be used for the 2008 School Report Card. The form should also be used for reporting total expenditures for student examinations or occupational competency testing by school division. These data will be used to justify state reimbursement to school divisions. Please return the form by July 15, 2008 to Gordon Creasy, specialist for industry certification and licensure, Virginia Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education,
Questions should be addressed to Gordon.Creasy@doe.virginia.gov, specialist for industry certification and licensure, at (804) 225-2057.
