SUBJECT:	Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium

 

The Department of Education is pleased to announce the Third Annual Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium in collaboration with Title III, Limited English Proficient (LEP) Programs. This symposium will address topics such as: 1) support for gifted learners; 2) serving Limited English Proficient (LEP) learners with disabilities; 3) questions school leaders should ask about data and student achievement; 4) resources for students with disabilities; and 5) reading strategies for LEP students. All the topics will be presented in the context of rural settings.

 

The symposium will be held at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia. It will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, and conclude on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 2 p.m. School divisions that are recipients of Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2, and Title III, Part A, funds are invited to send coordinators and other representatives to this symposium.

 

The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage the online registration. The link is: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/reg/rss/. The online registration must be completed by Wednesday, March 5. Breaks, dinner, and lunch will be provided; lodging and parking will be master billed. Travel should be charged to the respective local program.
