SUBJECT:	Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference & Exposition, June 29 July 2, 2008

 

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) are pleased to announce that the annual Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference & Exposition will be held June 29 July 2, 2008, at The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia. This annual statewide event has been sponsored jointly by VDOE and VASSP every year since 1927. The purpose of the state conference is to develop and enhance middle and high school administrators' leadership skills, increase their understanding of current educational issues, and expand their knowledge base for success.

 

The theme of this year's conference is Principle(al) Strategies for School Improvement Competence to Excellence. Conference sessions will focus on instructional leadership, academic accountability, best practices, educational policy, teacher quality, school management, school law, and community involvement/partnerships. Governor Kaine has been invited back to address school administrators. President Mark Emblidge, Virginia Board of Education, and Superintendent of Public Instruction Billy K. Cannaday, Jr. will be addressing the Commonwealth's new policy directives.

 

The conference will address other pertinent topics identified in the 2008 Principals Needs Assessment Form (Attachment A). To further assist the conference planners, please complete and return this form no later than March 14, 2008. You and your staff are also invited to submit the 2008 Call for Presentations Form (Attachment B) to be considered for inclusion in the conference program. The presentation form must be returned by April 1, 2008.

 

Please mail your forms to Summer Conference Committee, VASSP, 4909 Cutshaw Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23230. The VASSP office will mail the completed program, registration information, and hotel accommodation forms to division superintendents and to all middle level high school administrators in early April.
