SUBJECT:	Principal and Central Office Personnel: Preview Meeting on Effective Schoolwide Discipline in Virginia

 

In the spring 2005, the Virginia Department of Education's Office of Special Education Instructional Services initiated a series of meetings for principals to introduce Effective Schoolwide Discipline (ESD), a statewide initiative to support positive academic and behavioral outcomes for all students. Virginia's ESD Project is based on accumulated research on positive behavioral supports. To date, one hundred three (103) schools have participated in statewide ESD training.

 

The Department's commitment to build capacity among Virginia schools has prompted this invitation for additional schools to participate in ESD training in the 2008/2009 school year. In August/September 2008, the Virginia Department of Education will offer preview meetings for principals and central office staff in the following eight superintendents regions at which time discussion will focus on the ESD Project and upcoming training.

 

At this ESD Preview Meeting, principals and central office staff will receive an ESD Readiness Packet that contains all the necessary information and timelines to apply for the next round of training in ESD.
