SUBJECT: |
Second and
Final Payment of Fiscal Year 2008 |
The
General Assembly provides funding for the school breakfast program as an
incentive to increase the level of student participation. The fiscal year 2008 (FY 08) incentive
payment is based upon 2006-2007 school year breakfast program participation
data. The original fiscal year 2008
appropriation was not sufficient to fully fund the incentive payment at $ 0.20
per meal to each school division. The
Department of Education reimbursed school divisions at a pro-rated amount in
October 2007.
Additional
fiscal year 2008 funds have been appropriated by the General Assembly to fully
fund the fiscal year 2008 incentive payments to school divisions. A second and final payment will be made to
school divisions that earned incentive funding.
The attached spreadsheet (Attachment A) shows, in the final column, the
additional incentive payments that will be made.
The
state breakfast incentive funds will be paid via electronic data interchange (EDI)
on May
30, 2008. This payment will appear on
the EDI notice as State School Breakfast
Incentive Funds revenue source code 240347.
Funds
received by school divisions for this program must be credited to the school
nutrition program and may not be used for any other purpose. The school nutrition program financial
reports submitted to the Department of Education will be monitored to determine
compliance with this requirement.
Please
direct questions regarding the school breakfast program incentive funding to
Lynne Fellin, associate director of school nutrition programs, or the
division's assigned school nutrition specialist, at (804) 225-2074.
