SUBJECT:

Survey for Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE)

In April 2005, the Virginia Department of Education began collecting data on Virginia's progress toward meeting educational goals related to watersheds and related educational programs in the Commonwealth's schools. The survey has been conducted each year since that time. Using the Single Sign-on for Web Application Systems (SSWS), school divisions provided these data, which were reported to the Governor and the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council as part of the requirement of the multi-state 2000 Chesapeake Bay Agreement http://www.chesapeakebay.net/content/publications/cbp_12081.pdf and the signed Chesapeake Watershed Education Agreement: Fostering Chesapeake Stewardship http://www.chesapeakebay.net/exec.htm.

The Department is again requesting that school divisions complete a short survey describing watershed and related educational activities. The Department is required to provide this information to the Governor each year.

Please complete the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) electronic survey by June 20, 2008, at https://p1pe.doe.virginia.gov/ssws using your school division's Single Sign-On for Web Application Systems (SSWS) login and password. A copy of the electronic survey is attached. If you (or the person completing the survey) do not have access to the MWEE survey application through SSWS, please contact your local SSWS administrator for assistance.

If you have questions about the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience survey or assistance identifying your school division's SSWS administrator, please contact Paula Klonowski, science coordinator, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, by e-mail at paula.klonowski@doe.virginia.gov or by telephone at (804) 371-0249.
