Nominations
for the English Language Proficiency Levels Alignment Study Committees |
The Office of
Test Administration, Scoring, and Reporting in collaboration with the Office of
Program Administration and Accountability is accepting nominations for
committees to participate in a study for aligning the proficiency levels of
ACCESS for ELLs with the Virginia English language proficiency
levels. As
Twelve educators
will be selected for each of the following four committees based on the grade
level clusters:
Kindergarten
through Grade 2
Grades 3
through 5
Grades 6
through 8
Grades 9
through 12
Committee
members will review and evaluate the extent to which the ACCESS for ELLs
proficiency levels correlate with the
School divisions
are encouraged to nominate one or more representatives for each committee.
Nominees may include educators familiar with the Virginia ELP levels, such as English
as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, Title III/ESL coordinators, and curriculum
and instructional specialists.
Committee
members will be chosen based on the following criteria:
instructional/supervisory experience with limited English
proficient students; and
balanced regional representation.
Committee
members will be provided the following:
$100 honorarium
per day (if not under contract with a school division during the committee
meetings);
reimbursement
for meals and travel expenses in accordance with state travel policy and
guidelines;
lodging;
and
certificate for recertification points (pending local
approval).
All nominees who
wish to serve on the ELP alignment study committees must complete the Web-based
application using the Assessment Committee Application Processing System
(ACAPS). The Web-based application process requires a professional reference
and approval from the division superintendent or designee. Procedures for
submitting the Web-based application are available at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Assessment/ACAPS/index.htm
Completed
applications should be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education using
ACAPS by June 10, 2008.
