The
Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the addition of the Middle School Reading Modules in Support of
Project Graduation and Middle School
Writing Modules in Support of Project Graduation to the resources available
for middle school English teachers.
The
modules, aligned to the 2002 English Standards
of Learning, support tested reading and writing standards. These Web-based resources will provide
teachers with more than 140 lesson plans to enhance the teaching of reading and
writing. Writing lessons focus on using
the three-domain rubric, setting up and using writing portfolios, and revising
and editing lessons to encourage the development of a strong essay. The reading lessons support the teaching of
fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. These
resources are not a complete curriculum and are neither required nor
prescriptive, but they can be valuable instructional tools. The modules are available at the following link:

additional information, please contact Karen Koory, middle school English
