SUBJECT:	MODSIM World 2008 Conference and Expo

 

Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) and the NASA Langley Research Center will host the MODSIM World 2008 Conference and Expo. This event will take place September 16-18, 2008, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center at 1000 19th Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451. MODSIM World 2008 is an international conference and exposition for modeling, simulation, visualization, games for learning, and systems dynamics; and their application to learning, training, and workforce development in the 21^st century. The Conference and Expo will highlight research and technology through papers, panels, invited speakers, workshops, professional development, and exhibits.

 

The anticipated audience for MODSIM World 2008 includes educational and community leaders; STEM educators at all levels; policymakers; administrators; and anyone else who shares an interest in 21^st century teaching, learning, and training applications. Attendees will learn how MODSIM is being used to:

• help students develop problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills;
• help teachers and students see and appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of STEM;
• increase technological literacy;
• enhance teaching and learning by providing "real world" applications of engineering and science concepts; and
• create the next generation workforce for Virginia.

All presentations, professional development activities, and exhibits support the Virginia Standards of Learning, career pathways, and focus on the five major components of Virginia's long-range technology plan: technology integration, professional development, connectivity, educational applications, and accountability.

 

Kindergarten through grade 12 educators are eligible for a discounted registration fee of $125 for early registration and $175 at the door. Pre-service teachers enjoy a special one-day pass rate of $50, or $100 for a three-day pass.
