Guidelines for School Division Policy Regarding Service Dogs in Virginia's Public Schools

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide guidance for school divisions developing policy regarding service dogs in Virginia's public schools. Amendments to the Virginians with Disabilities Act, at 55.1-44, took effect on July 1, 2008. The specific language was intended to include public schools in the group of public entities that must meet the requirements of this statute.
