SUBJECT: |
2007-2008
Annual Report, Programs for the Gifted |
In 1999, the Code of Virginia was modified to include the following provision:
Each
local school division shall submit the annual report, Programs for the
Gifted, as required by Board regulations, to the Department of Education. [22.1-18.1].
The 2007-2008
annual report, Programs for the Gifted, will be collected through the
Department of Education's Single Sign-On for Web Applications Systems
(SSWS). Access to the application,
Gifted Education, for school division personnel should be requested through the
school division's SSWS account manager.
This
application will collect teacher training and program services data only. The division's student membership and
referral data will be drawn from the school division's end- of-year student
records collection. If the school
division has not yet submitted the end-of-year student records data, the
application will display a message indicating that the user may not proceed
until the school division's student records data are submitted.
Teacher
Data: The application will ask for the
number of both full- and part-time teachers of the gifted as specified in the
school division's approved local plan for the gifted. Further, the report will request information
about the training and credentials those teachers held or obtained in
2007-2008.
Program
Services: Individual program services
pages will be generated to allow the school divisions to report the options
available for identified students. For
example, if a school division identifies and serves students in only one
program, such as general intellectual ability, that single program page will be
created for the collection of the school division's services data.
After
entering its teachers and program services data, each division must print a
verification report for the superintendent's signature. The verification report should be mailed to
Dr. Donna L. Poland, Office of Middle/High School Instruction, Virginia
Department of Education,
Gifted
education coordinators will be able to search the database of information
submitted by divisions for school years 2004, 2005, and 2006. After August 30, 2008, the 2007-2008 data
will also be searchable by school division gifted education coordinators.
Questions
regarding the document or the process may be addressed to Dr. Poland, specialist,
