Guidance
Regarding School Fees and Charges |
The purpose
of this memorandum is to provide guidance regarding fees that may be charged to
students and their families in
The Department
of Education conducted a survey in June 2008 to determine what fees are being
charged by school divisions and whether school divisions have policies
regarding those fees, including provisions for those families experiencing
economic hardships.
The
information received in response to the survey indicated a lack of consistency
around the state regarding fees.
Therefore, the Department of Education has developed the attached
guidance document to assist you in determining permissible fees.
The Board of
Education, at its meeting on July 17, 2008, approved a Notice of Intended
Regulatory Action to begin the process of review and revision of the current Rules Governing Fees and Charges, 8 VAC
20-370-10. This review and revision will
be conducted in accordance with Administrative Process Act procedures. Until the regulations are revised, the
current regulations remain in effect.
Please use the guidance document to assist you until the new regulations
are complete.
Please
contact the Office of Policy and Communications at (804) 225-2403 or by e-mail
at policy@doe.virginia.gov, if you
need additional information.
