SUBJECT:

Final Title IV, Part A: Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (SDFSCA) Entitlements for the 2008-09 School Year Under Provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001,Public Law 107-110

 

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has recently received final information from the U.S. Department of Education about the level of funding for the SDFSCA program for 2008-09.

 

Total Allocation to Virginia $5,429,816.00

 

        Governor's Office (20 percent) $1,085,963.00

 

        VDOE (80 percent) $4,343,853.00

 

 

Of the $4,343,853.00 allocated to the VDOE, funds will be distributed as follows:

 

        School Divisions (93 percent)$4,039,783.29

 

        VDOE (7 percent) $ 304,069.71

 

Preliminary funding information was provided to division SDFSCA coordinators as a part of their technical assistance workshop on April 22, 2008.

 

The attached table provides a listing by school division of the final Title IV, Part A entitlements for 2008-09. The allocation to the state decreased by 15.4 percent compared with 2007-08. However, most school division allocations changed by a different percentage because of changes in the division's K-12 enrollment and its Title I allocation.
