SUBJECT:

Public Comment on Proposed Revised Mathematics Standards of Learning

 

On October 23, 2008, the Virginia Board of Education accepted for first review proposed revised Mathematics Standards of Learning. The Virginia Board of Education is now seeking public comment on the proposed revised Mathematics Standards of Learning for use in the public schools of the Commonwealth.

 

The proposed revised Mathematics Standards of Learning may be found on the Department of Education's website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/boe/meetings/2008/10_oct/agenda_items/item_j.pdf. Comments should be e-mailed to Deborah Kiger Bliss, mathematics coordinator, at mathsol@doe.virginia.gov.

 

The Virginia Board of Education will hold five public hearings to solicit comments on the proposed revised Mathematics Standards of Learning. Two public hearings will be held on December 1, 2008, at 7 p.m. at:

 

Hermitage High School Pulaski County High School

8301 Hungary Spring Road 5414 Cougar Trail

Richmond, VA 23228 Dublin, VA 24084

 

Three public hearings will be held on December 3, 2008, at 7 p.m. at:

 

Linkhorne Middle School Joliff Middle School

2525 Linkhorne Drive 1024 Joliff Road

Lynchburg, VA 24503 Chesapeake, VA 23321

 

Robinson Secondary School

5035 Sideburn Road

Fairfax, VA 22032

 

Registration of speakers for these five public hearings will begin at 6:30 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board. Comments may be faxed to the Department of Education at (804) 786-5466 or sent via mail or e-mail until November 22, 2008, to Deborah Kiger Bliss, mathematics coordinator, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120.
