Review of the Economics
and Personal Finance Standards of Learning: Seeking Input from the School
Community |
At the October 23, 2008, Board of Education meeting the Department
of Education was authorized to proceed with the development of Economic and Personal Finance Standards of
Learning. It is anticipated that the
standards development will be completed by January 2010.
An important part of the development process for the Economic and Personal Finance Standards of
Learning is the review of these standards by administrators, curriculum
supervisors, social science educators, career and technical educators, and
others who have expertise with the content of the proposed standards. The Department of Education is seeking nominations
from division superintendents for individuals who are qualified and available
to serve on a committee to review the Economic
and Personal Finance Standards of Learning during May 2009. Nominees should be teachers, principals,
administrators, content specialists, or others who have expertise with the
content area.
Committee
members reviewing the Economic and
Personal Finance Standards of Learning will be asked to review information
related to this content prior to convening for a two-day meeting on May 5-6, 2009,
to review the standards. Committee
members who are not under contract with a school division will receive a
stipend, and those under contract may receive recertification points, pending
the approval of their school division.
The Department of Education will cover expenses for mileage, meals, and
lodging related to the review process.
A nomination form to be duplicated as needed for interested
individuals is attached. Please return
nomination forms by December 12, 2008.
Committee members will be notified on or before January 23, 2009. Committee members will be selected on the
basis of expertise and experience in economics and personal finance and
balanced regional representation.
