The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Virginia Career and Technical Education Creating Excellence Awards Program for 2008-2009. The Virginia Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education will continue to present the business and industry partnership and advisory council/committee awards. The number of awards will be limited to one award for a business and industry partnership and one award for an advisory council/committee for each of the eight Superintendents’ Regions. Applicants for the Individual Educator Award and the Group Educator Award may also submit PowerPoint or jpeg files on their projects or activities.
The local judging process must be completed by Thursday, April 30, 2009. The regional judging level of the Creating Excellence Awards Program has been eliminated. Local divisions should submit their local winning nominations for awards directly to the Office of Career and Technical Education Services in Richmond Friday, May 15, 2009. Please list legibly the name or names of the individuals, educators, business and industry, or council as it should appear on the certificate of recognition. Regional and state award winners will be chosen by the following: Advisory Council Awards – Virginia Advisory Committee; Business and Industry Partnership Awards – Virginia Career Education Foundation (VCEF); and Secondary and Individual and Group Awards – a panel of local administrators and/or business and industry representatives. Regional award winners will be notified Friday, June 5, 2009. Regional and State award winners will be announced and honored during the 5 -7 p.m. dinner meeting, to be held, at the Richmond Convention Center, Tuesday, August 4, 2009. The Creating Awards Program is being held in conjunction with the 2009 CTE Summer Professional Development Institute.
Attached is a separate packet of information for each of the secondary categories in the Creating Excellence Awards Program. Please review each category’s packet carefully to ensure that all criteria and deadlines are met. The three packets included are:
