On March 29, 2007, the Virginia Board of Education adopted amended regulations governing the Secondary School Transcript. These revisions were made in order to strengthen the transcript regulations and to bring them into conformity with amended or new state and federal laws as well as the needs of higher education. The secondary school transcript regulations became effective for students taking secondary courses for credit beginning in the 2008-2009 school year.
Among the new revisions is the requirement that the Student Testing Identifier (STI) be included on all transcripts. This requirement is essential for institutions of higher learning, who are required to collect data on Virginia student’s enrolling in the fall of 2009.
Divisions not currently in compliance with the amended regulations are expected to have the adopted regulations in place for final transcripts for the 2008-2009 school year.
Attachment A contains a copy of the transcript regulations for your use in planning and developing transcripts at the local level. Localities have options for the secondary school transcript format. They may use the Department of Education’s sample or develop their own following the revised regulations. Attachment B contains the Department of Education’s sample transcript.
