SUBJECT: K-12 Mathematics Standards of Learning Training Institutes
DUE DATE: August 21, 2009

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce the K-12 Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) Training Institutes to be held in October 2009 at three sites in the Commonwealth. These are professional development opportunities provided by the state.

The K-12 Mathematics SOL Training Institutes will provide training that focuses on the major changes made between the current 2001 K-12 Mathematics SOL and those of the newly-adopted 2009 K-12 Mathematics SOL. Participants may include division-level leaders, mathematics supervisors, instructional supervisors, professional development personnel, and building administrators. Registration is limited to four participants from each school division with each participant to attend one training session that is designated by each of the following grade bands: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12.

Registration – The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage registration. The registration process can be completed online at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/reg/vsolp/. Participants may select one training session offered from 8:45 a.m.–3 p.m. at the following locations:

Lodging – School divisions are encouraged to cover lodging and travel expenses for division participants for the training institutes, as the cost is not assumed by the VDOE.
