SUBJECT: Technical Assistance Webinar for Reporting the Title I School Improvement Data Required Under No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce a technical assistance webinar designed for school divisions implementing Title I School Improvement sanctions for 2009-2010. Section 1111(h)(4)(F) of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires school divisions with schools in Title I School Improvement to collect data related to local implementation of School Improvement sanctions. These data are collected through the annual School Improvement Implementation Survey (SIIS). The Web-based technical assistance opportunity will focus on the data collection elements required for Title I schools in Year 1 through Year 7 of School Improvement and the procedures for reporting the data in SIIS.

The technical assistance webinar will be offered on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; and again on Thursday, January 21, 2010, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To register your school division for one of the sessions, please complete the attached form and return it by e-mail to Gloria Torrens-Billings, administrative assistant, at Gloria.Torrens-Billings@doe.virginia.gov or by fax to (804)371-7347 by Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Participating school divisions are asked to assemble representatives at one location with a speakerphone and a computer that supports the webinar application. It is recommended that the Title I coordinator, SES coordinator, and student record collections personnel be present for the presentation.

Directions for participating in the webinar are as follows:

1. At the date and time of the presentation for which your division is registered, go to http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/profdev.html and select “eMeeting/Webinar Sessions (September 2007-to-date).” Locate the session (Title I School Improvement Data Reporting) and select “Join Now.” Enter your name and e-mail address. Enter the password “siis0809” when prompted.

2. Dial (866) 842-5779 to connect to the teleconference portion of the webinar. Enter the conference code “8043710908” when prompted.
