TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
As you know, the Library of Virginia (LVA) establishes retention schedules for all public records, including those maintained by public schools. The schedules establish the requirements for managing these records, including retention and destruction timelines and methods.
The Library of Virginia and Public Schools Records Consortium will host a day of workshops aimed at educating school personnel on the legal responsibilities of managing the records your office creates.
The workshops will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Library of Virginia, 800 East Broad Street Richmond, Virginia 23219. This full day of training includes workshops on basic records management, electronic records management, General Schedule 21 Public School Records, and transferring archival records to LVA.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Elyse Gefell at email@example.com or (804) 692-3900. There will be a $20 registration fee, payable by cash, credit card, or a check made payable to The Library of Virginia Foundation. Boxed lunches will be provided.
Registrants will be able to access workshop handouts at http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/psrc beginning February 12.
