The Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) extend an invitation to all principals, assistant principals, lead teachers, and other professional educators to participate in the 2010 Annual Assistant Principal/Lead Teacher Professional Development Conference. The Conference will be held March 22-23, 2010, at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The conference will open with a message from the Virginia Secretary of Education, the Honorable Gerard Robinson. Former Superintendent of Public Instruction and Virginia Commonwealth University Distinguished Professor William C. Bosher, Jr., Ed.D. will deliver a motivational keynote on Monday afternoon.
Opening day features special sessions and breakouts that will allow attendees to gain practical strategies that they can begin using in their schools right away. Topics and speakers will include: Turnaround Schools – Dr. Kathleen Smith, director, Office of School Improvement, Virginia Department of Education; Special Education Issues – Ms. Kathleen Mehfoud, Attorney Partner, Reed Smith, LLC; Improving Community Relations Through Technology – Daryl Chesley, director of instruction, and Michael George, technology specialist, Fredericksburg City Schools; Capitalizing on Assessment – Paula Brown, Hampton City Schools; and RTI – Dr. Julie Bush, Roanoke City Schools.
On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, attendees will benefit from a presentation conducted by Dr. Dan Mulligan. Dr. Mulligan, president of Educators for Academic Excellence, LLC, has provided and modeled research-based strategies to assist teachers and administrators in raising the achievement of each student. His presentation will include information on creating and using valid and reliable achievement data, moving a staff toward a professional community, and applying research-based instructional and assessment strategies.
Attendees will have a chance to network and discuss the hot topics of the state of education in the Commonwealth. Registration information for the conference is available at www.vaesp.org/.
