The U.S. Census Bureau has created a Census in Schools program called 2010 Census: It's About Us. The program provides educators with resources to teach students about the importance of the census. The program engages America's youth to help ensure every child and every household member is counted in 2010. The date of census count, required by the Constitution of the United States of America, is April 1, 2010.
The 2010 Census: It’s About Us program contains lesson plans and materials designed to encourage census excitement in the classroom and create awareness and involvement in the upcoming census. The kindergarten through grade twelve curriculum is free to schools nationwide. Teachers can find lessons, worksheets, and additional support materials on the U.S. Census Bureau Census in Schools Web page at http://www.census.gov/schools/. The classroom lessons in 2010 Census: It’s About Us offer real-world data that reinforce curriculum goals, from map skills and community involvement to data literacy. The lesson plans can be searched by grade level, subject, or key word.
