The 2010 Virginia Pupil Transportation Conference sponsored by the Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation (VAPT) and supported by the Department of Education (DOE) will be held at the Holiday Inn Koger Conference Center in Richmond, June 21-24, 2010.
Information regarding the details of the conference will be sent to the pupil transportation director in your school division. Registration is scheduled for Monday, June 21, beginning at 11 a.m. VAPT is sponsoring a ROAD-E-O for bus drivers on Tuesday.
Again this year, VAPT is combining the Special Needs Symposium usually held in April with the June conference. The conference will include several National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) classes, sessions on special needs transportation, a workshop on bullying presented by VCU, a special presentation by Mr. Joe Lightsey, Alabama director of pupil transportation, wellness workshops, and “Operation Lifesaver.” Off-site technical maintenance training will be held for technicians and mechanics. Exhibitors will be present to discuss their products with drivers, technicians, and directors.
A special invitation is extended to division superintendents and other school personnel involved with or interested in pupil transportation. Registration information is contained in the package that was sent to your pupil transportation director and is also posted on the VAPT website at: http://www.vapt.org.
If you have any questions concerning this conference, please contact Michael Ashby, VAPT president and director of pupil transportation in Hanover County at (804) 365-6520 or Ms. June Eanes, director of support services, at (804) 225-2037.
