Affordable access to various broadband services has been widely identified as a key component to economic growth, particularly in remote locations that previously have not had such access. To that end, the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) recently awarded 14 statewide contracts for broadband services. These contracts provide all Virginia public bodies access to a variety of competitively priced broadband technologies, bandwidth offerings and discounted month-to-month rate plans. These contracts streamline the process and generate cost savings by reducing monthly recurring service fees and upfront staff time. The broadband options include:
To better assist localities, VITA also has developed an online search for broadband services and pricing using ZIP codes. The Web search returns a list of contracts for services available in the ZIP code where the broadband services are to be installed.
