This communication is to inform you of revised procedures to be followed when requesting emergency response assistance from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). This revision results from the 2009 General Assembly’s passage of HB 2612 and SB 1150, of the Code of Virginia at § 22.1-279.8 “School safety audits and school crisis, emergency management, and medical emergency response plans required.”In language which was added to amended Paragraph A of § 22.1-279.8 which states...
… the plan shall include a provision that the Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund shall be contacted immediately to deploy assistance in the event of an emergency as defined in the emergency response plan when there are victims as defined in § 19.2-11.01, as well as current contact information for both.
Information and guidance for contacting the Department of Criminal Justice Services when emergency events meet this criteria are provided in Attachment A. Attachment B is the emergency reporting form that should be used to request assistance.
