TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
In accordance with the Code of Virginia at § 22.1-279.8, local school boards are required to annually review the written school crisis, emergency management, and medical emergency response plans of each public school within the division. The superintendent shall certify in writing that the review has taken place no later than August 31 of each year to the school safety center (Virginia Center for School Safety, VCSS) at the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
In order to certify the completion of the crisis plan review, superintendents will utilize the Web-based “Survey Manager” website at https://www.dcjs.virginia.gov/vcss/surveyManager/.
A username and password to access the website will be mailed to each superintendent. After logging on to the “Survey Manager,” the superintendent will need only to provide his/her initials and select the “certification” button to complete the process. Additional information is available on the DCJS website: http://www.dcjs.virginia.gov/vcss/.
Questions may be directed to Donna Michaelis, manager of the VCSS (DCJS), at 804-371-6506 or by e-mail at Donna.Michaelis@dcjs.virginia.gov.
