TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
To assist the Commonwealth in supporting college and career-readiness initiatives, the Virginia Department of Education will collect student-level course enrollment data again this year. Data gathered from this collection will also be used to complete the Council of Chief State School Officers’ annual State Indicators of Science and Mathematics Education survey.
All grades seven, eight and high school mathematics and science courses, of which the student has taken a minimum of 20 hours, between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010, should be reported. This does pertain to accelerated sixth graders having taken seventh- grade courses.
The Course Enrollment Data Collection application will be open, after an error-free End-of-Year Student Record Collection. The signed verification report should be faxed to Education Applications at 804-530-4516, by September 15, 2010. Early submission is encouraged. Instructions for completing and submitting the data, a list of the course assignment codes and the tab-delimited layout can be found on the Virginia Department of Education’s Website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/info_management/data_collection/student_record_collection/index.shtml#cedc_2009_10
