Internet Safety and You (http://www.infinitelearninglab.org/) was developed by the Department of Education and the Professor Garfield Foundation with support from the Verizon Foundation and the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia. The website presents animated lessons starring Garfield and other characters from the popular cartoon strip created by Jim Davis, who has donated his artwork for this project.
The first Internet Safety and You episode featuring Garfield was announced last October. The online resource now includes four animated segments, related activities, and resources for teachers, parents, and students – including certificates for students and classroom posters. Topics addressed include online safety, cyberbullying, forms of media and how students can distinguish fact from opinion when viewing online content. After watching each feature, students can interact with an animated character and apply what they have learned through a series of challenges that reinforce the information and concepts conveyed in the segments.
In addition to online videos and resources featuring Garfield and his friends, a collection of related Internet-safety applications for the Apple iPad is available at no cost from the Apple App Store.
