The Virginia Board of Education prescribes the professional teacher's assessment requirements for initial licensure in Virginia as set forth in Section 22.1-298.1 of the Code of Virginia. The Praxis II ® Subject Assessments are required for endorsement (content) areas. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has revised the Praxis II World Language assessments in French, German, and Spanish through the test regeneration process.
Effective September 1, 2010, ETS will administer new versions of the Praxis II World Language Assessments for French, German, and Spanish. The revised assessment for French (0174) replaces the current assessment for French (0173). The revised assessment for German (0183) replaces the current assessment for German (0181). The revised assessment for Spanish (0195) replaces the current assessment for Spanish (0191). All of the current assessments in World Languages will be discontinued after the summer 2010 test administration.
At the June 24, 2010, meeting, the Board of Education approved passing scores for the new World Language assessments as follows:
In addition, the Board of Education approved the new Praxis II World Language assessments as another option to meet endorsement requirements for Native speakers or candidates who have learned a foreign language without formal academic credit from a regionally accredited college or university pursuant to Section 8VAC20-22-360 B of the Licensure Regulations for School Personnel.
Score reports for individuals who took the World Language assessments in 0173-French, 0181-German, or 0191-Spanish prior to September 2010 will be accepted as the Praxis II content assessment for initial licensure, for adding an endorsement (Section 8VAC20-22-70), or for experiential learning (Section 8VAC 20-22-90 E) provided the candidate met the passing score effective at the time the test was taken.
