COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
July 16, 2010
TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
As part of its responsibility for revisions to existing regulations, the Virginia Board of Education (VBOE) is required by Section 22.1-17 of the Code of Virginia to notify school divisions of any administrative impact on regulations.
The 2010 Session of the General Assembly enacted House Bill 208, approved on May 9, 2010, that eliminated certain reporting requirements for state-funded remedial programs. On June 24, 2010, the VBOE approved proposed amendments to the Standards for State-Funded Remedial Programs and authorized the staff of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to proceed with the remaining steps of the Administrative Process Act. The proposed technical amendment to 8 VAC 20-630 will remove reporting requirements for local school divisions as data needed for the VDOE to analyze these programs are now available through the department's internal data information system. The proposed amendments are indicated in the attached documents. At this point, the amendments are moving through the remaining steps of the Administrative Process Act. You will be notified by Superintendent's Memorandum when the process is complete and the amendments become effective.
If you have questions regarding the proposed amendments to the 8 VAC 20-630 State-Funded Remedial Programs, please contact Dr. Kathleen Smith, at (804) 225-2865 or by e-mail to Kathleen.Smith@doe.virginia.gov.
