I am pleased to announce the 2011 Aspiring Superintendents Institute sponsored by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) and Virginia Tech. This Institute will help prepare aspiring leaders to become better trained candidates for division superintendents’ positions in the Commonwealth. I encourage you to recommend outstanding candidate(s) for this Institute who aspire to become a division superintendent and have them complete the application. The Institute is for individuals interested in becoming superintendents within the next six months as well as those who are contemplating starting a career path to a division superintendent and wish to enhance their leadership skills. Please consider nominating individuals who have demonstrated success as a key instructional leader, administrative supervisor, or a principal that has been involved in division-level activities.
The Aspiring Superintendents Institute will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Virginia Tech will offer graduate course credit for the Institute. The dates of the training sessions are: January 13-14, 2011; March 10-11, 2011; and May 1-3, 2011.
The January and March programs will be held on Thursday and Friday and the May program will be held Sunday – Tuesday. For qualified in-state residents, the $3,300 fee includes registration for the VASS conference, graduate school application fee, reduced tuition rate for three credit hours, Institute meals, lodging, self-parking and materials during each session. The first 23
applicants who submit completed registration packets will receive a Scholarship that will be applied towards their registration fee. The reduced fee will be $2,300. For additional information, please review the flier at the following Web site: http://www.cota.vt.edu/sli.
Individuals you recommend should be interested in serving as a division superintendent and possess the qualities you believe are important in serving in this position, such as good decision-making skills, communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and demonstrated leadership qualities. These nominees should be individuals you would be happy to have as your colleague.
To recommend a candidate(s), please complete the attached nomination form and share this information with the staff member(s) you are recommending for the Institute.
