The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce the K-12 Mathematics Institutes to be held in October and November 2010 at three sites in the Commonwealth. These K-12 Mathematics Institutes are targeted professional development opportunities offered by the state in a train-the-trainer model that provide:

- support in the implementation of the 2009
*Mathematics Standards of Learning*; - training in the vertical progression of content and pedagogy;
- instructional guidance in content areas of greatest challenge; and
- electronically archived training materials for division and teacher use as a professional development tool.

Participants may include division-level leaders, mathematics supervisors, instructional supervisors, professional development personnel, and building administrators. Registration is limited to four participants from each school division with each participant to attend one training session that is designated by each of the following grade bands:

- K-2 Number and Number Sense;
- 3-5 Patterns, Functions, and Algebra;
- 6-8 Patterns, Functions, and Algebra; and
- 9-12 Functions and Statistics.

**Registration**

The Tidewater Team for Mathematics Excellence at the School of Education, College of William and Mary, will manage registration. The registration process can be completed online at http://tidewaterteam.wm.edu/vadoe_math.php. Participants may select one training session offered from 8:45 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the following locations:

Lunch will be provided for participants. School divisions are encouraged to cover lodging and travel expenses for division participants for the training Institutes, as the cost is not assumed by the VDOE.
