SUBJECT: The Annual Virginia Foreign Language Supervisors' Association (VFLSA) Award for Leadership in Foreign Language Education

The Virginia Foreign Language Supervisors' Association (VFLSA) is seeking nominees for the annual VFLSA Award for Leadership in Foreign Language Education in Virginia. Nominations are welcome from Virginia public school or division administrators and foreign language teachers wishing to recognize VFLSA members who have demonstrated leadership and significant success in the area of foreign language education.

Nominees for this award should be current VFLSA members with a record of significant and describable contributions to foreign language education in Virginia. Nominees should demonstrate a clear knowledge of current issues in foreign language education in Virginia, outstanding leadership in supporting and promoting foreign language education locally or statewide, and outstanding leadership in supporting local foreign language teachers.

Nominations should be submitted in narrative form with a maximum of two double-spaced, typewritten pages. The individual making the nomination should include information relating to the criteria above as well as a statement of how long and in what capacity he or she has known the candidate. The names, addresses, and telephone numbers of both the nominator and nominee should be included. Nominations may be submitted by U.S. mail or e-mail to Valerie M. DiPaola (DiPaolaV@wjcc.k12.va.us), coordinator, World Languages and ESL, 101-D Mounts Bay Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. Nominations must be received by December 31, 2010.

The award recipient will be announced at the spring VFLSA meeting. Recipients who are also members of the National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages (NADSFL) will be nominated for the 2011 National District Supervisor Award.
